Vitamin C is a miracle ingredient – it brightens dull complexions, diminishes dark spots, promotes collagen production, protects skin from environmental damage, and diminishes signs of aging. Vitamin C is incorporated into a wide range of skincare products, but my favorite way to use them is as serums.
I believe a vitamin C serum is absolutely necessary in a skincare routine – anyone can benefit from it. When friends approach me and ask to help them build a skincare routine, I always, without fail, recommend a vitamin C serum. When I built my boyfriend a skincare routine – whose routine used to only consist of a salicylic acid cleanser and no moisturizer – I had him incorporate the Timeless Skincare Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum into his routine. He’s a huge fan of it and applies it diligently every morning; insisting that it’s helped him clear up his acne and dark spots.
I rotate vitamin C serums often, but my current favorites are from Paula’s Choice.
The C15 Super Booster is huge favorite. It’s formulated with 15% L-ascorbic acid (a widely used form of vitamin C) and stabilized with vitamin E and ferulic acid. This serum has an extremely watery consistency – it’s so watery that it absorbs almost instantly and is difficult to spread evenly. To resolve this issue, I like to mix it with a snail mucin serum or the Drunk Elephant Virgin Luxury Marula Oil. Not only does the marula oil make it easier to spread evenly across my face, but it also allows the vitamin C serum to penetrate the skin more deeply. This vitamin C serum is a dream – it leaves my skin feeling incredibly smooth and brightens my skin like no other. My skin is absolutely glowing on its own; I don’t need makeup to create a glowy, dewy effect (although, I like to enhance my glowy and dewy skin with cream highlighters)! This serum is a huge hit for me – I apply it in the morning after cleansing and move on with my day.
The C25 Super Booster is the answer to my prayers. Not only do I expect my vitamin C serum to brighten my skin, but I expect it to diminish my dark spots. Vitamin C serums can easily do this, but over time – and I’m impatient. The C25 Booster is a super concentrated with 25% vitamin C to drastically diminish dark spots, and I can’t live without it. It has a silky texture – like a silicone makeup primer – that is easy to rub into the skin and disappears quickly. I apply this to my dark spots, rub it in, and wait a minute or two for it to absorb before I move onto my facial oil (it will slightly pill if I don’t allow it to absorb). It’s a great way to diminish dark spots a lot quicker than using a serum everyday, and I will definitely repurchase.
